As Wee Wild Ones prepares to open their newest location in Currie, they’ll be hosting their annual fundraiser, the Monster March and Market, right in the Currie community! The Monster March is on October 29th and includes a 3km march around the Currie community which ends at the Monster Market with local vendors and much more (see more detailed info below).
Wee Wild Ones provides early childhood education for children 12 months to 12 years of age. In addition to outdoor adventure, curiosity, and play, their days revolve around meals, activities, cuddles, and cleaning. They champion diversity and inclusion and aim to uplift the entire community through their work.
Running in conjunction with their non-profit arm Wilder Futures, the Monster March is raising money for the Children’s Cottage Society. This organization helps prevent harm and neglect to children and helps build strong families through support services, respite programs and crisis nurseries. Funds from this year’s event will go towards building their new Child and Family Centre NW Calgary to provide more nursery crisis beds, counselling services and therapeutic child development programs to help address emerging issues in small children.
The Monster March runs from 11:00am to 12:00pm, featuring cheer squads, music, mascots and more! Families from all over Calgary are welcome to dress up in their most monstrous costume and march the 3km route throughout the community of Currie. Starting at Alexandria Park, looping through Valour Park and ending at Harvey Hall where the Monster Market will be there to welcome you!
The Monster Market will be held from 11:30am-4:00pm at Clearwater Academy’s Harvey Hall and will include local vendors, food trucks, music and a silent auction. There is a $5 entry fee per person, all going towards the $100,000 fundraising goal. Please note: Vendor applications are now open for the market.
Be sure to check out this exciting addition to this year’s market: there will be a mural unveiling at the Market on Wee Wild One’s new building, painted by artist Katie Green. The mural has been co-created with young artists in Calgary who submitted their creature drawings to Katie, who then re-interprets the children’s monsters in her signature watercolour style. It’s a must see!
The three winners of the Monster Scavenger Hunt (read more about this below) will also be revealed at the Monster Market.
Leading up to the Monster March, check out the month-long Monster Scavenger Hunt in Currie! From October 1st until the event on October 29th, Wee Wild Ones is running the Monster Scavenger Hunt to help raise additional funds for the Children’s Cottage Society fundraiser.
How it works: Monster drawings will be hidden throughout local businesses, parks and amenities in the community throughout October. Participants are asked to take a photo with all 15 monsters and submit them to the Monster March phone line: 403-714-0529.
Participants can register for the scavenger hunt and explore Currie this October in search of 15 monsters for a chance to win 1-year of free childcare at any childcare center throughout the city. There will be one entry per family. Each entry will grant participants into a draw and three winners will be drawn and announced at the Monster Market on October 29th. Winners must be present at the event to collect their prize.

Participants can register for the Monster Scavenger Hunt, 3km Monster March and Monster Market and collect pledges on a personal fundraising page. All registration funds go towards Wee Wild Ones’ donation goal in support of children and families in need. Currently $1,790 has been raised of their $100,000 goal.
Good luck and see you on October 29th in Currie in your most monster-y outfits!
