#MyCurrieStory Winners: From Toronto to Currie

June 28, 2022

Thank you to everyone who participated in our #MyCurrieStory contest. We got so many great responses from the community!

Congratulations to Olivia Viola and Alex Bearinger for being the winners of the #MyCurrieStory contest! Olivia and Alex moved from Toronto to Currie five months ago. Check out what sparked their decision to move across the country.

Location, Location, Location!

Olivia and Alex are both working professionals who fell in love with Currie while visiting family last year. “We love the sun – can’t wait for our patio furniture to come in! – and the great outdoors, so we can’t imagine a more perfect place to call home.”

When asked why they chose to live in Currie, and what attracted them to the community the most, Olivia said, “Alex and I see so much potential in the plans for Currie. Coming from Toronto, we really like the idea of the community being walkable and bikeable to restaurants, markets, parks, etc. because we don’t have a car and don’t plan on getting one. We also love how diverse the houses look – it’s like being on a movie set!”

She also said they love the ease of access to downtown, Marda Loop, and many other parks.

“Getting out to the mountains is fast too. Wild Rose has a great outdoor patio with delicious beers. We love that it’s so close! We’re really looking forward to the new distillery opening up.”

Some of their favourite hidden gems near Currie that they often recommend to friends include Masal Bhavin for Indian food, Busan for Korean food, and Barrow on the Mount Royal Campus for coffee.

Making a House a Home

When choosing a house, Currie had exactly what Olivia and Alex needed. Olivia explained, “For us, it was having a walkable neighbourhood in a city but close enough to the outdoors, like the mountains, parks, rivers, etc.

“In terms of our house, we needed a space big enough for an office, a home-gym, and an entertainment space, all within an affordable price range.”

One of Olivia and Alex’s most memorable moments in Currie was five months ago when they first moved in, “Meeting our neighbours when we first moved in was such a wonderful experience. They had a little cocktail party to introduce us to everyone. Now we’re close and hang out often!”
