Monster Month has Begun

October 27, 2022

As Wee Wild Ones prepares to open their newest location in Currie, they’re hosting their annual fundraiser, the Monster March and Market, in the Currie community! Running in conjunction with their non-profit arm WilderFutures, the Monster March is raising money for the Children’s Cottage Society. Funds from this year’s event will go towards building their new Child and Family Centre in NW Calgary.

Monster Scavenger Hunt is On Now

The Monster Scavenger Hunt is happening all around Currie right now! You can participate until the Monster March event on October 29th.

How to Participate: Monster drawings are hidden throughout Currie at local businesses, parks and amenities. Take a photo with all 15 monsters and submit them to the Monster March phone line: 403-714-0529. Tip: check out some of the show homes and home builder sales centres in Currie or perhaps a few places where you can grab a bite or drink 😉

Participants get a chance to win 1 year of free childcare at any childcare center in the Calgary. One entry per family. Each entry will grant participants into a draw and three winners will be drawn and announced at the Monster Market on October 29th. Winners must be present at the mural unveiling event to collect their prize.

Currie Community Mural Unveiling

Meet Katie Green, the artist behind the Currie community mural. As Katie explains, “I am a visual artist who creates watercolour personas that are eery and ethereal. These whimsical portrait-style personifications are meant to be emotionally visceral reflections of a gritty and unapologetic exploration into the complexity of the human experience.”

Katie involved Currie youth in the brand-new mural by re-imaging their original monster drawings in her signature water Katie is hoping to create a lasting legacy with this community mural. As she mentions on her website, “Involving the community has become an essential extension to my practice. I am driven by relationships and curious about the possibilities when creating vulnerable spaces that encourage connection and healing.”

Katie’s mural will be unveiled at Wee Wild Ones new childcare building (2550 Dieppe Avenue SW) around 1pm, after the March.

Join the fun and participate in the Monster Scavenger Hunt, and be sure to join us that day for the Monster March + Market. All donations towards the fundraising goal for the Children’s Cottage Society are appreciated!
