Paul and Peter live in the community of Marda Loop, Currie’s long-time neighbour just across Crowchild Trail. These two retirees have a love of Currie that keeps them engaged in our community. Read on to find out what makes Currie so appealing to our friendly neighbours!
Peter and Paul have a wide range of reasons for why they frequent Currie. Since it’s so close to Marda Loop, they have a number of friends who live in Currie, making it a great place for the couple to socialize. They enjoy visiting friends who live here – either at their friend’s places or meeting at the Inn on Officer’s Garden or Wild Rose Brewery, two favourites among residents and visitors of Currie!
“While visiting friends we’re always taken by the attractive streetscapes of Currie and we certainly enjoy the unique nature of the hospitality offerings in the area,” explain the pair. They often find themselves introducing friends from Marda Loop to the amenities Currie has to offer.
Another aspect of Currie that brings the Marda Loop couple over the flyover is the walkability and bike-ability of Currie.
“We enjoy biking through Currie in the warmer months – great road system with little traffic. Currie is a great destination for sunny, winter afternoon walks too – especially around The Parade Square or through the neighbourhood parks,” suggest Peter and Paul.
“We’ve been in our house in Marda Loop for just about 22 years,” the couple share. “Ultimately, we can see ourselves moving to [Currie] in the coming years when we decide to downsize.”
Having lived in Marda Loop since 2000, Paul and Peter have been watching the development of the former CFB Calgary lands right next door. As it evolved into Garrison Woods, into Garrison Green, and finally from Currie Barracks into simply Currie, the couple have been keeping a close eye on the exciting changes.
“It’s been interesting to see the diversity of building styles combined with great green spaces and some commercial aspects as well,” Paul and Peter explain.
Paul and Peter continue to monitor the development happening in Currie, “As we are now both retired, the notion of downsizing from a house with a yard becomes more appealing. We think Currie’s location – close to Marda Loop, easy access to downtown and Westhills – is a real winner.” They add that it’s great to see the amount of new builds in Currie that might be just what they’re looking for.
Keep an eye out for these friendly neighbours! As Peter and Paul mention, “Look for us enjoying the many aspects Currie has to offer in the short term and maybe as residents in the future. Cheers!”
