Getting Wild with Wee Wild Ones

March 24, 2022

Currie is a growing community with more families making their homes here all the time. One of the key features that makes our community so family friendly is the variety of childcare and education options available for the neighbourhood kids. That’s why we are delighted to share that our newest local childcare business, Wee Wild Ones, is opening a new location in Currie in 2022.

Currie’s Newest Childcare Option

Wee Wild Ones has been in operation in Calgary since 2014. Originally providing yoga classes for children, they quickly grew to offering after-school programs and eventually came to become a full-service childcare centre in 2016. Today they have locations in their original home of Bridgeland, a second space in Fairview, and in 2022 their third location will be opening here in Currie.

What Does Wee Wild Ones Offer?

Wee Wild Ones offers childcare and early childhood education programs for children 12 months to 12 years of age. Their programs are focused on nurturing curious minds and kind hearts through inquiry-based learning, guided by children’s questions and interests.

Parents can choose from the following programs:

  • Childcare for kids aged 12 months to 3 years
  • Of the Wild Preschool for kids aged 3 – 5 years
  • Wilder-Garten (Kindergarten) for kids aged 5 – 6 years
  • Before + After School for kids in kindergarten to Grade 5
  • Music Lessons for kids aged 3 – 12 years
  • Seasonal Camps during March Break and Summer for kids aged 3 – 12 years

In any of these programs, children will have the chance to learn about the natural world though outdoor play and exploration. All learning opportunities are developmentally appropriate for each age group and customized based on the children’s unique minds. In addition to outdoor fun, activities include sensory exploration, table play, story reading, creative arts, and other enriching tasks.

The Perfect Pairing for Nature-Loving Families

Finding the perfect community for their next location was an easy choice for Wee Wild Ones. Currie is a family-friendly community filled with blooming natural spaces for young ones to explore. With Alexandria Park in the heart of the community, and so many other green spaces, Wee Wild Ones has plenty of options for bringing the kids outdoors in a safe and friendly area.

In addition to being a great home-base, Currie also enables Wee Wild Ones to offer their unique services in Calgary’s southwest, making it a convenient option for many more Calgary families. The local history in the area provides another great leaning opportunity for local kids.

Is Wee Wild Ones Right for Your Family?

Choosing the right childcare for your family is a huge decision. Wee Wild Ones understands that the childcare they provide is more than a service, it’s an integral part of each family’s life. In addition to outdoor adventure, curiosity, and play, their days revolve around meals, activities, cuddles, and cleaning. They champion diversity and inclusion and aim to uplift the entire community through their work.

Their values extend beyond providing exceptional care to the children and into caring for the planet too. While young ones are educated on their role in the environment, Wee Wild Ones practices sustainability in their operations as well, including:

  • Vegetarian meals served in our facility
  • No single-use serve ware or paper towels
  • Diligent sorting and recycling through Skip the Depot
  • Centre-wide cloth diapering program
  • Activities done with children and toys in the classroom have an emphasis on long-term use and natural materials
