One of Currie’s many, diverse, fitness options is WTM Muay Thai and Kickboxing. This locally owned fitness centre describes itself as “Calgary’s friendliest Muay Thai gym” and it’s a wonderful place to find fitness classes, private training, and an outstanding community of people. If you have any interest in martial arts or making new friends while breaking a sweat, this is the place for you.
Muay Thai is a type of combat sport from Thailand and is called the “Art of Eight Limbs” due to the use of punches, kicks, elbows, and knee strikes. It’s a modern version of the ancient Thai martial art of Muay Boran. Incorporating modern rules, techniques, and tools, contemporary Muay Thai shares many characteristics with kickboxing, which is also available at WTM Muay Thai.
“I love the evening—the gym is busy and lively, and I enjoy catching up with everyone. We are a big family here.”
Scheduled classes offer something for every level, from Muay Thai Fundamentals to Advanced Muay Thai. There are also classes specifically for women and teens, as well as training, coaching, and sparring options for those more experienced fighters who want to put their skills to the test.
WTM Muay Thai and Kickboxing was founded by Albert, who has been practicing martial arts for over 30 years. He has 150 fights under his belt and opened WTM in 2013 to share his expertise with other Calgarians. A friend and fellow business owner introduced him to the space WTM currently occupies in Currie and he knew immediately it was the place for his community-oriented business.
“I fell in love instantly. I signed the paperwork the same day.”
For Albert, Currie is a one-of-a-kind location. He says, “Not only is it a good location from a business perspective, but the character of this community seems to be pouring out of each corner.” Being surrounded by active families and engaged community members only strengthens the feeling of comradery found in his gym. Albert himself is present almost all the time, greeting guests and catching up with the regulars. He loves helping people reach their fitness goals whether that’s by offering personalized, private training or simply chatting at the gym about how you’re feeling.
If you’re considering joining Albert and his crew at WTM Muay Thai, don’t wait! With a diverse offering of scheduled classes and private training, there’s something for almost everyone. As the friendliest Muay Thai gym in Calgary, WTM is an excellent place to get started in the world of martial arts.
“Don’t let fear hold you back. We are a gym that is here for YOU.”
You can find WTM Muay Thai at 2633 Hochwald Ave SW #170 in Currie or visit their website at https://www.wtmmuaythai.com/ to learn more.
